This is one of the hardest decisions I've made in my time with horses, but I'm hoping there is a kiddo or lady out there who needs a confidence builder and best friend all in one.

CaliforniaSummer, affectionately known as 'Eve', is a 2014 dark bay mare. She stands at 16.1 hands, and is a beautiful, typey, feminine mare with a true sport-type build and a stunning head. She is sired by Council Member, by Seattle Slew, and out of Summerfield, by Affirmed. Her pedigree is filled with horses who produce well across multiple disciplines. Eve won just under $63,000 on the track in her 41 starts, and retired sound to begin a career in Eventing with an emphasis on Dressage. She is stunning in her movement and suspension, and a natural jumper. Unfortunately, Eve sustained a kick to her front left cannon bone in turnout. She did not come sound enough to return to performance work, but was accepted by Zangersheide to produce warmblood babies through the Z registry. She was bred to Asterix E Z in 2022, and had a beautiful filly this April. Lightning struck the property in June, and Eve's filly was in an accident in her stall when the lightning struck, and did not make it. It has been a devastating situation for all involved.

Eve is loved beyond words and measure. She is an absolute doll. She is well-mannered, kind, safe, and appreciates all attention she receives. Between the kick while turned out and osselet formation in her fetlocks from her career on the track, Eve is not a candidate for returning to performance work. But because she is so kind, safe, and loves attention, I've decided to search for the perfect person to love and enjoy her. Though she hadn't been ridden in two years, I got her out on Saturday and climbed on bareback with zero prep whatsoever. She rode off quiet and safe as ever (see video). I just walked and trotted her, as I have no need to canter her. She is sound enough to go to a light riding home, or possibly tiny-tot lessons, easy summer camp work, or even a therapy horse. Alternatively, she could continue her career as a broodmare producing sport horses.

She is barefoot, current on vaccinations, an easy keeper for a Thoroughbred, and not currently receiving any maintenance, though she would benefit from it if working. Easy to lead, load, clip, bathe, vacuum, blow dry, tie, haul, you name it. Lives in or out, alone or with others, dry lot or pasture or stall. Eve whinnies and smiles every time she sees you...

Eve has a huge piece of my heart and soul and it is very important to me that I find the right situation for her where someone can enjoy her the way she deserves to be loved and enjoyed. At this time, I will consider all options as far as lease, lease to own, or possible sale in the low to mid four-figure range. I have absolutely nothing to hide and will fully disclose any and all information about this mare to anyone who is seriously interested.

Located in Conifer, Colorado. Will happily help arrange shipping.
